Mid Carolina Radio

WSML began its operations in December 1967 in studios on Ivey Road in Graham as a 250-watt daytime station on 1190. Norman Young was the General Manager of Smiles of Graham and Harold Nall was Sales Manager.  Aubrey Aycock became GM a few years later. WSML moved to 1200 AM in 1991 and began broadcasting full time.

After a number of years of simulcasting the programming of Winston-Salem heritage station WSJS, which had a relatively weak signal to the east, the Curtis Media Group changed the station to sports in 2010. WSML now simulcasts some programming with WCOG in Greensboro and WMFR in High Point. Its offices were on Pine Street in downtown Graham for a few years, but are now at Tower Drive in Burlington.
