Mid Carolina Radio

a website for broadcasters

Mid Carolina Radio is designed to be a history of Alamance and Rockingham County radio stations told in text, audio and pictures. It’s the story of those stations and the people who worked there, especially when all of the stations were locally owned and operated.

The website is a work in progress, and will be made better by your pictures, audio cuts, stories and input. Your help is also needed to make sure the information contained is historically accurate. New material will be added the first of every month.

WE"D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU! Please use the Contact Us link below, or send any material to rlcrews@triad.rr.com

Welcome…and enjoy…MidCarolinaRadio!

We're still looking for a picture of the entrance to the original WFNS
studio location (WBAG) on Andrews Street, but we've moved a little closer. The station was on the 2nd floor of the building on the right next to the State Theater (1956).  It's at WBAG PICTURES

The audio is a bit muddy, but Ted Nelson and I decided we should post this clip of Pat Bailey from WBBB simply for its history. Hear it at WBBB AUDIO.

Chip Chase (McCraw) was on the air the day we learned Elvis had died. Here's the AP copy at WBAG MISCELLANEOUS.

A picture of Janet Woody and Bob Crews circa 1978, likely from a birthday party for a staff member at WBAG PICTURES.

Wes Jones sends this scan of a WLOE/WEAF envelope from 1972 at WLOE PICTURES.

Does anyone besides Mike Moore, Frank Dwyer and Bob Crews know what this item was used for? Did anyone ever work with one? See the details at WMYN MISCELLANEOUS.

He drew it from memory, but here's a sketch of the WBBB floor plan by Ted Nelson when he worked at the station on the sixth floor of the Alamance Hotel in the early 70s.

Our thanks to Larry Riggs for sending us a picture of his ticket stub from a Ronnie Milsap and Crystal Gayle concert WPCM promoted in 1978. Notice the ticket price in the middle!

Larry also sent us a couple of 1978 WPCM music charts.  You can see the cover and information inside at  WPCM Miscellaneous.
